Estradot is a transdermal estradiol patch delivering 17β-estradiol for hormone replacement therapy. Evidence from randomised controlled trials (RCTs)and meta-analyses support its use in managing a range of symptoms:
- Vasomotor symptoms (hot flushes and night sweats): RCTs and meta-analyses confirm transdermal oestradiol (including Estradot) significantly reduces hot flushes and night sweats, improving menopause-related quality of life 1-4
- Safety: Transdermal routes lower venous thromboembolism (VTE) and stroke risk versus oral oestrogen 5,6
- Osteoporosis prevention: Meta-analyses show transdermal oestradiol increases bone mineral density and reduces osteoporotic fracture risk compared with placebo 7,8
- Guidelines:
- NICE NG23 (2024): Recommends transdermal estrogen (patch, gel, or spray) for vasomotor symptoms and bone protection, especially for women at higher VTE risk 9
